Phytochromatic MDTM Complex

Phytochromatic MD Complex began with an idea. Peter Dorogi, Ph.D. and his colleague John McCook discussed the possibility of using chlorophyll or chlorophyll derivatives and laser energy to treat and possibly prevent acne by concentrating the green chlorophyll color in the sebaceous glands. The thought was that the color would absorb the laser energy and slow down or even shut down the sebaceous gland activity and mitigate or prevent the development of acne. David Vasily, MD, a well-known dermatologist and expert in the field of laser treatment and therapies was contacted to join the team and explore the initial concept with preclinical and clinical studies.

The initial goal of curing acne with laser energy was not realized. The focused laser energy did not alter the sebaceous gland activity. However, several years of research, laboratory development and clinical evaluations, led to the discovery and identification of a unique, botanically-derived copper chlorophyllin compound (Phytochromatic MD Complex) and a topical delivery system containing this complex, for the treatment and prevention of both the textural and color changes seen with chronological and sun-related facial skin aging. The copper chlorophyllin complex ingredient that was initially intended to be used as an inert ingredient for use with the laser, turned out to be a highly efficacious anti-aging ingredient capable of clinical improvements in skin surface texture, color, firmness and elasticity.

Laboratory development and refinement of product formulations, independent clinical studies, and product evaluation by patients in several dermatology and aesthetic practices over the course of several years led to the introduction and launch of the RejuvaphylTM brand products containing the Phytochromatic MD Complex technology by MDRejuvena™, Inc at the 2015 American Academy of Dermatology annual meeting in San Francisco. Phytochromatic MD Complex has been shown in clinical studies to have a number of important skin care benefits including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-redness and anti-microbial activity. A study published in the April 2015 issue of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology illustrated the beneficial effect in women with photodamaged skin. In vitro studies have recently shown that copper chlorophyllin inhibits the activity of hyaluronidase, which breaks down hyaluronic acid in the skin. Topical use of Phytochromatic MD Complex may help protect the skin’s extracellular matrix leading to smoother, firmer and more resilient facial skin.
